About The Blackberry Township Cemetery
The Blackberry Township Cemetery, located at the North East corner of Illinois Rt. 47 and Keslinger Road, was initially organized in 1860 by the Odd Fellow Lodge #222 in Elburn and the local Blackberry Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Under Dispensation. It was first called Union Cemetery and later Blackberry Cemetery. Prior to July 1, 2007, the Cemetery was operated by The Cemetery Association, a non-profit group, with Dean Capes as the representative. However, on that date, the responsibility for the Cemetery was transferred to Blackberry Township. The Cemetery has a historical significance as it contains graves of veterans who served in the War of 1812, Civil War, World War I and World War II. Visitors can find unique family monuments and gain access to the original notes of the proceedings that led to the Cemetery’s formation at the Township Cemetery Office.
